Whether you are just getting started with Facebook and Instagram Ads, or you have been using them for awhile, don’t make these four mistakes that newbies often make when they first start using Facebook and Instagram ads for their businesses!
1. Businesses start using Facebook and Instagram Ads but they don’t outline any goals beforehand.
Whenever you are doing any sort of marketing tactic, you should have a specific goal outlined before your start spending your money. Why? You will not only have a better understanding of what you are doing in order to reach that goal but you will also be able to see if you are ultimately successful. You want to make sure that goal is SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time sensitive.
2. You are using the wrong type of campaign.
This starts by understanding your goal. If your goal is to drive traffic to your website, you don’t want to be using a boosted post. If you are setting up your Facebook and Instagram ads within Facebook Ads manager, then you can select the specific campaign that you need for your goal.
3. You only have one ad set and one ad.
Everything in marketing is about testing! If you only have one target audience and one ad then you won’t know if your ad could potentially perform better. You should start with at least two different ad sets in every campaign. And a minimum of three to six ads within an ad set. This way you can determine if their are different audiences who are interested in your product/service. You can use the same ads within the different ad sets.
4. Your Targeting is WAY to broad.
I hear this all the time- if you have a restaurant, your target audience can’t just be anyone who likes to eat. You need to be specific about who you are going after. For example, if you have a higher end restaurant, maybe you want to apply an income target or an older age target in a specific area around the restaurant. If you are too broad then you are going to be wasting your money and the people seeing your ads are probably not going to be appealing to them.
