We’ve all had the crazy, never will be satisfied client. This advice is not for them. This is for your “normal” clients 😉
The #1 way to keep your clients happy is…
under promise and over deliver
Don’t promise the world and show up with a piece of dirt. Don’t tell them you’re going to increase their sales by 50% and deliver 5%. Be conservative. Don’t promise the best case scenario. Promise 5% and deliver 50%.
Don’t promise to have the project done the next day, if you know you need more time to finish it to do your best work. Tell them you’ll have the project done on Friday, finish it on Tuesday, review it on Wednesday, and deliver it a day ahead of schedule on Thursday.
I think because we live in a fast paced world where everything is delivered to us on demand, we think we need to also need to deliver to our clients ASAP, even results. I get caught up in this a lot, and when I do I never do my best work. I get that sometimes things can’t wait, but I would argue it is a lot better to bring your best instead of done as quickly as possible.
So, under promise and over deliver. Your clients will be happier and you will be too. You’ll probably also do better work because you won’t be working from a place of stress.
PS – If you still have that crazy, never will be satisfied client and you own your business – fire them. Yes, fire your client. Your future self and business will thank you.
