Today we are going to talk about something a little bit different than the typical Facebook and Instagram Ads that we usually discuss. Now, we are going to still talk about something that is really important to anyone who has a business: SEO and SEM. A lot of times people aren’t sure what the difference between these two are or how to utilize them to help improve their business.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and SEM stands for Search Engine Marketing. SEO is what you do to your website and your strategy for your website content that will help you move up rankings in search results.
SEM are the things that you are doing from a paid strategy standpoint to get to the top of the search paid ads.
When most people think of search, they think of Google- which is great because that is where the majority of the people are. And that is what you should be focusing on if you are just starting with SEO or SEM.
Today we are going to talk about three different strategies for SEO and three different strategies for SEM.
The first thing you want to do with SEO is to make sure that your page is fast. If your page isn’t loading within the first few seconds, then people are going to leave. Make sure that all of the pages on your website have a fast load time. You can do this through your website host.
The second tip for SEO is that you need to create new content frequently and consistently. Google loves new updated information. A great way to do this is to have a blog. Having a blog isn’t always about who is reading it, it is about the information that you are providing to people and building a website that Google favors. Now, don’t write content about things that have nothing to do with your business- it needs to be relevant to your business.
The third tip for SEO is to make sure that all of your information is up to date. This means that things like your opening hours, product offering, etc. are consistent across the board (on Facebook, Instagram, Website etc.)
Ok time for SEM! The first thing that you want to do when you start using Google Adwords is to use the keyword planner (find this inside Google AdWords). Use this to see how many people in your area are using specific keywords to find specific things. If a certain keyword is very competitive, you might have to have a huge budget for specific words.
The second tip for SEM is that you want to use extensions. An extension is something that goes beyond your average ad. It could be call outs to do specific actions or highlighting specific pages that will help people click over to your ad.
The third tip is that you should use multiple ad groups. Very similar to Facebook ads, you have your campaigns and then you also have Adwords and ads. You want to use multiple ad groups with a different grouping of viewers to get your ad out to multiple people.
