Last week, Facebook announced a few different changes that are coming to the news Feed and people seemed to panic. Today, we are going to talk all about what you actually need to know about the Facebook news feed changes and what you can do to prevent them from affecting your business.
The big change that was announced is that Facebook is going to be prioritizing Family and Friend’s post over business posts in the news feed. Now, this is not a reason to panic. Facebook has made numerous changes over the years and yet it still continues to grow and it still continues to be a great spot to grow your business.
What this really means is that organic reach, which was already at a very small number, is going to go down to nothing. If you are only posting to your Facebook business page and not running any ads then no one is probably going to see your posts anymore. These changes are going to be happening gradually over the course of the next couple of months so your might notice only slight changes at first.
Next, there are certainly other places to find organic traffic and drive that traffic to your page. One of those places is search. If you put money behind search, from an SEM standpoint, it is a great idea. Another place is Pinterest – Pinterest is key! It is basically a search engine that is great at creating organic traffic. YouTube is also an awesome place, it is still the second largest search engine.
Number four – Facebook is a business. Just because Facebook said that they will be prioritizing friends and family posts over business posts, they still want to grow their own business and make money for their shareholders. This means that advertising is not going to go away anytime soon.
Now, if you don’t have an advertising budget, then you certainly need to! If you are paying a social media manager to post on your Facebook page, then you need a budget to help get those posts out there. Even if that budget is small, you at least want to continue to stay top of mind with the people who are currently interested in you.
This means that while you certainly still need an email list, you shouldn’t focus solely on that and neglect everything else. Use your social media platforms to continue to stay in front of your email list and remind them why they were interested in your content in the first place.
Last but not least, it is still really important to create great content! You still need to be blogging to help out your SEO. And you need to be sharing that content because this will help earn trust from the people that are already interested in you. It will help further your relationship with them in order to get them to like, know and trust you. Most often when you are running Facebook and Instagram Ads, once someone finds your ad, they typically will visit your page so you need to make sure that you continue to post!
The bottom line is that if you don’t have an advertising strategy then you need to get one ASAP!
